A First Look at the 2008 Jackets
With still a long summer and preseason remain before the kickoff of the new football season in August, here is an early look at the Union County Football team as of the end of spring training in May of 2008.
Several players have impressed coaches during spring
practice.
Jarred O'Shields, Travis Black and Jay Thompson are on the offensive line.
Bradley Robbins is at fullback. Lamont Edney, Michael Mebane and Akeem Beachem
will see time at tailback.
“We see some good things with our guys running the football,” said Lipsey.
Deon Thompson, hampered by a groin injury, and Jeremy Porter are at wide
receiver. Nick Monroe, Keiston Stevens and Antwan Curenton will see time at
quarterback.
“Each quarterback has bright spots,” said Lipsey. “We're trying to find
people to play at receiver. Our throwing needs work.”
UCHS looks to option and trap option out of the spread, implementing some new
looks for the new year.
On defense, Tevin Thompson is a leader on the line and is joined by Nick
Jackson, Desmond Floyd and Jay Thompson - who will play both sides of the ball.
Neil Washington and Dylan Lawson will go at inside linebacker. Sylvester Moore
and Kevin Hardy are at outside linebacker. Kendrick Brewton is at safety and
coaches are looking for players to step up at corner.
The defense used a 4-4 base for the spring scrimmage.
