Union County vs. Chapin

Union County dominated Chapin 38-0 on Friday to advance in the state playoffs.

The Yellow Jackets scored on their first three possessions and didn’t let up offensively or defensively in winning their first round game. UCHS (6-5) will host J.L. Mann this Friday in the second round.

Nick Monroe found Tate Knox on a 38-yard pass to set up the first touchdown, a 4-yard Kendrick Byrd run.

After some hard running by Michael Mebane, Dierris Beacham scored on an 18-yard run. A Desmond Floyd fumble recovery led to Mebane’s 22-yard touchdown run.

Byrd later scored again to give the Jackets a 28-0 lead. Alex Tucker returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown and kicked a 34-yard field goal to cap the scoring.

Mebane had more than 100 yards rushing on the night and the Jackets had 250 yards on the ground. UCHS’ defense was equally impressive, holding Chapin to 100 yards offense. The defense held on fourth down and forced two turnovers.

“The defense getting a shutout in the playoffs is big and the offense played well,” said Jacket coach David Lipsey.

Now UCHS will face J.L. Mann, a 35-17 winner over Seneca in the first round. Jamarcus Aiken rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns and Eric Beeks 88 yards and a touchdown for the Patriots (6-5).  Cody Younce found Alton Huguley for a touchdown. Younce was 7-of-16 for 115 yards and Huguley grabbed four balls for 50 yards.
