Union County continues to roll through the playoffs, with a 34-7 win over J.L. Mann on Friday. The win was overshadowed by a wall at Union County Stadium collapsing and injuring 28 fans -  12 were taken to Wallace Thompson Hospital. No one was seriously hurt.

Mann struck first when Cody Younce threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Sampson Baldwin. It was all Yellow Jackets from there.

UCHS scored on five straight possessions, three in the second quarter, for the win. Kendrick Byrd opened the scoring barrage with runs of 23 yards and 7 yards. Nick Monroe threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Desmond Floyd and the Jackets led 21-7 at halftime.

Michael Mebane added a 65-yard touchdown run and Dierris Beacham an 8-yard scoring run in the second half. Mebane rushed for 152 yards on the night. The Jackets rushed for 251 yards and four touchdowns.

The defense held Mann to just 102 yards rushing. Alex Tucker intercepted two passes and Floyd blocked a punt. The Patriots (6-6) also committed more than 100 yards in penalties.

The wall collapsing delayed the game for about an hour, as 15 yards of wall fell injuring students.

Union County (7-5) hosts Clinton (9-3) next week in the third round of the playoffs. The Red Devils dominated BHP 39-13, forcing five Bear turnovers. Lance Templeton had a big night, going 5-for-5 for 156 yards and two touchdowns - one a 51-yard pass to Kenny Cook. Clinton beat UCHS 13-10 on Oct. 23 and the Jackets will be looking for payback.
